Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied reports that he endorsed All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu for President.
This comes as reports surfaced online that Obasanjo had endorsed Tinubu following a closed-door meeting with him in Abeokuta last Wednesday.
The former President, in a statement issued over the weekend by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, said statements from those claiming to be Tinubu supporters are unhelpful.
Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, stated that what happened during the meeting between Obasanjo and Tinubu was a sign of Tinubu’s victory in 2023. Gbajabiamila made the remarks on Thursday at the Surulere Local Government Area APC meeting in Surulere, Lagos.
The Speaker, who said he was present at the Abeokuta meeting, said Tinubu’s presidency was almost a certainty based on what he heard there.
In response to the claim, Obasanjo stated that the statement attributed to him is a forgery and that the people behind the report are unhelpful to the candidate.
“Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing statements on the discussion and those crediting to me statement I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are doing the visit no good,” Obasanjo said.
