Miyetti Allah’s remarks about Peter Obi are rejected by the Fulani group
On Monday, August 15, a group of Fulani professionals, the Coalition of Fulbe Professionals in Africa, condemned a statement attributed to one Alhaji Alhasan Salah, who is said to be the National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.
In an interview, Alhasan stated that the Fulani people would not support Peter Obi in the upcoming general elections. Obi was described as a tribal bigot who disliked the North and, by extension, the Fulani tribe.
Alhasan stated: “According to Miyetti Allah, Obi is not among the candidates to be voted for in the upcoming elections.
“As far as we are concerned, we are aware of those we cannot vote for. Any Fulani man who votes for Obi or OBIdient must be questioned because he may not be a true son of the soil.
“Obi is the Biafran representative. So we know who we cannot vote for and who cannot be Nigeria’s President. He is a bigot from his tribe.”
The Coalition of Fulbe Professionals described Alhasan’s legislation as “politically sponsored.”
The Fulani organization urged Nigerians to disregard any statements made by Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore, claiming that the organization did not speak for the Fulani ethnic group.
COFPIA stated in a statement signed by its National President, Prof. Mohammed Gidado, and Secretary, Hajiya Mairo Modibo, that while it recognizes their right to free expression and opinion, “they don’t have the right to speak for the entire Fulani in Nigeria, especially when they haven’t lived up to expectations.”
According to COFPIA, Fulbe people throughout Nigeria “will not be bound by that politically sponsored statement of Miyetti Allah.”
The full statamenet is as follows: “Our attention has been drawn to a sectional, unpatriotic, ungodly, and senseless statement attributed to one of our brothers, Alhajji Hassan Saleh, the National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Nigeria’s most controversial Fulani group, which is without a doubt responsible for the bad name the Fulani nation has been given in Nigeria.
“The Fulbe of Nigeria will no longer be bound by Miyetti Allah’s politically motivated statement.
The Fulani people have matured and can no longer be used as tools of extortion and religious sentiment. We will educate our people so that they can vote for competence and capacity in 2023. We will never vote for a candidate who offers nothing. We have progressed far beyond religious and ethnic prejudices.
“We will vote for a President who will address the poverty and acute hunger that have long held our people hostage.” We will vote for a President who will fight insecurity with zeal and objectivity, regardless of who is involved.
“Miyetti Allah, our respected tribal group, should focus their campaign on rehabilitating the negative image they have created for Fulani people in Nigeria rather than casting aspersions on Peter Obi, who has demonstrated the ability to rescue Nigeria from its current state of hopelessness.
“We also want to be clear that we have not endorsed Obi or any other presidential candidate in the upcoming general election, and we are not Obi’s mouthpiece, but it is wrong for our people to continue to label Peter Obi as a tribal bigot who dislikes the North. According to available information, Obi is a fervent nationalist who believes in Nigeria’s unity.
“They lack the moral, spiritual, and religious rights to speak for the entire Fulani people in Nigeria, especially now that they have devolved into tribal bigots with no regard for other tribes or faiths.
“Nigerians have pledged to vote for the best man for the job in the upcoming elections and will not be swayed by selfish agendas or blackmail.
“As campaigns begin, we will mobilize and educate Fulani, young and old, in every ruga and town to warn our people not to be misled by Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore and others.”
