Adebule wins polling unit for Tinubu
By Tajudeen Adebanjo
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos West senatorial candidate, Dr. Idiat Adebule, has delivered her Polling Unit 029, Iba, Ojo, Lagos State Fire to the party’s Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Adebule, who was declared winner in the unit for her senatorial election, also ensured she won the unit for the party’s House of Representatives’ candidate and Tinubu.
In the senatorial election, she polled 127 votes leaving the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Adewale, with 66 votes.
In the House of Representatives, the APC got 114 votes while the Labour Party candidate came second with 103 votes.
The former Lagos Deputy Governor completed the hat-trick in her unit with Tinubu winning the unit with 121 votes while Labour Party candidate Peter Obi got 120 votes.
Adebule has been consistent in delivering her unit for the party despite the fact that the area is being dominated by the people of the eastern region who are more politically-conscious than their Yoruba hosts.
She thanked the electorate and party faithful for the feat.
According to her, there is need for voters to participate more in the electoral system.
The Nation learnt that only 262 people voted out of 1,352 registered voters in the unit.
LP wins big in Ex-SGF Babachir’s polling units
By Onimisi Alao, Yola
The Labour Party (LP) has won big in the presidential election at the home units of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
Babachir who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), chose to work for the victory of the presidential ticket of Labour Party in protest against the same-faith ticket of the APC.
His home base is the Jiga Jiga A and B polling units of Banshika Ward in Hong Local Government area of Adamawa State where he was during the Presidential/National Assembly elections of Saturday.
At Jiga Jiga A unit, Labour Party’s Peter Obi polled 302 votes while the candidate of PDP Atiku Abubakar got 67 votes and APC’s Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu came third with 19 votes.
At Jiga Jiga B polling unit, Labour Party led with 101 votes, PDP 21 and APC 13, according to figures.
One dead as violence breaks out in Gombe Gov’s polling Unit
By Sola Shittu, Gombe
One person has been shot dead and another injured in a violent clash between political thugs at the polling Unit of Gombe Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
Yahaya, who voted at Yahaya Umaru polling Unit 010 Jekadafari lost the Presidential election to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which polled 215 against the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) 186 votes.
Trouble however started when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official started counting the Senate and House of Representatives ballots.
The thugs who thought the counting was not going in their favour snatched the four ballot boxes and ran away.
However, the armed security personnel at the polling units quickly accosted the thugs and recovered two ballot boxes from them.
In the ensuing meleu, the two persons sustained gunshot injuries and one of them later died.
The thugs appeared with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons when the counting of House of Representatives was underway to snatch ballot boxes, papers and other relevant materials.
Eyewitnesses said the hoodlums stormed the unit at about 7:20 pm when the INEC Presiding Officer was about counting the House of Representatives votes.
Voters, party supporters others storm INEC office in Warri
By Elo Edremoda, Warri
IMG20230226113827
Over 100 persons, including voters, party agents, politicians and supporters are at the secretariat of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State over the non conduct of elections in major parts of the council.
The council boss, Dr. Michael Tidi and agents of parties have just concluded a meeting with the electoral officer, Kingsley Ogboe, over how to go about the exercise in areas where elections were not conducted.
Ogboe is yet to give audience to the press.
However, sorting and distribution of materials is ongoing at the INEC office.
The Nation gathered that the unavailability of result sheets for some units, absence of Supervisory Polling Officers (SPOs) and vehicles to convey sorted materials to the affected polling units are posing challenges to the workers.
When approached by some adhoc staff on how to proceed to the polling units, an official seen manning the door of the EO said staff are only to return to units with complete or uncompromised result sheets.
Some adhoc staff were heard reporting that some of the SPOs have refused to go back to the field.
It was further gathered that materials got to the polling centres late yesterday because of an alleged directive by the Electoral Officer.
An INEC official who spoke in confidence disclosed that “we were all here waiting. We slept here so that we can leave early. But we were told that the EO directed that we wait. It was around 12 noon to 1p.m that we were dispatched”.
However, it was gathered that at Wards 1, 3, 7, 8, 11 and 12 there will be partial conduct of elections, while polls will hold fully at Wards 4 and 9.
INEC declares Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal constituency poll inconclusive
By Sanni Onogu, Lokoja
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared the House of Representatives poll in Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency inconclusive.
The Returning Officer Dr. Adams Baba, declared this after announcing results of the election.
According to Baba, the action became necessary following the slim margin of difference between the winners and the first runner up and the cancelation of results in two polling units of the federal Constituency during the poll.
Baba said the difference in the results between the winner, Arch Salman Idris of African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Prince Matthew Kolawole was not up to the number of registered voters in the canceled polling units.
Baba said: “The ADC candidate (Idris) polled 13,867 while the APC candidate (Kolawole) polled 13,605 leaving just 262 votes difference.
“Whereas, the number of PVCs collected in the cancelled polling units of Iya in Otu ward in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area is 485 and that of Open Space polling unit in Egbeda ward in Ijumu Local Government Area is 100. This is more than the difference between the two leading candidates.”
Baba however did not state the date when a rerun election would be conducted in the affected polling units.

Thugs now target BVAS machines, not ballot boxes- Yakubu
By Tony Akowe, Abuja
Chairman of the Independent Nation Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has stated the Bimodal Voter Identification System (BVAS) has become a target of attack by political thugs in some parts of the country.
Briefing Journalists on complaints so far from across the nation, Yakubu said thugs attacked a polling unit in Safana local government area of Katsina State and another polling unit in Oshimili local government area of Delta State, carting away six and two BVAS machines respectively.
He however said that the stolen machines have been replaced while the police have recovered three out of the six stolen in Katsina state.
He assured no matter how long it takes, every Nigerian in the queue before the allotted time of 2.30 pm will be allowed to vote.
While acknowledging officials and materials arrived at some of the polling units late, he disclosed that information from across the country indicate that the BVAS machines were functioning optimally.

Katsina Governor Aminu Bello Masari votes in Karfur, Katsina State

By Tajudeen Adebanjo
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos West senatorial candidate Dr Idiat Adebule has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to improve on logistics surrounding the electoral process.
She said the voting process has not been smooth and short of the people’s expectations.
Adebule, who arrived early at the Polling Unit 029 at Iba, was surprised that the INEC officials didn’t turn up until 10:40 am.
She appealed to the aggrieved electorate who have been at the centre as early as 7:30 am to be patient.
According to the former Lagos Deputy Governor, the late arrival of the INEC officials caused a lot of apprehension and agitation.
Adebule said: “Majority of voters are more agitated. It has not always been like this. I’ve been voting here for quite a while. The turnout of voters during this election is commendable. It was better than the previous polls. People are eager to vote.
“INEC should tidy up preparation and logistics early enough and be responsive to the people. People have been waiting here from 8am and voting didn’t commence until 11am. The electorates are not happy about it. I’m sure the INEC can improve on this.”

BIVAS fails to accredit Wike, wife
By Mike Odiegwu, Port Harcourt
After standing for about 25 minutes, Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, could not be validated to cast his vote at his Polling Unit 8, Ward nine, Rumueprikon, Obio-Akpor, following the failure of the Bio-modal Voter Accreditation System (BIVAS).
The Governor, accompanied by his wife, Suzzette, left the polling unit at about 11 am as the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appealed to them to wait a little while.
The officials described the failed BIVAS as a general problem in the State adding that they were waiting for technicians assigned to the unit to rectify the problem.
A crowd of voters was patiently waiting to begin accreditation at the unit.
The Governor, who left the unit, said they were disappointed with INEC.
He said: “We are highly disappointed. INEC told us they were ready for the election and that BIVAS are working. You can see the crowd here I don’t think that most people will be allowed to vote with slow working of the BIVAS.
“I have stayed about 25 minutes here and I was told to go and come back that they will rectify the BIVAS. We are highly disappointed. If a number of people are disenfranchised, what do you expect?
“People will lose their temper and anything could happen. INEC ought to have been completely ready before telling the people they are ready. There is no violence anywhere in the state”.

- By Osagie Otabor, Akure
Ondo Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has called on Ondo people to troop-out enmass on Saturday to vote for presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said: “We are supporting him not because we are from the same tribe but because he’s competent.
“Tinubu is a trusted and tested leader. Our insistence on Southern Presidency is for fairness and equality.
An Awoist and legal practitioner, Barr. Eddy Osifo, had faulted comments by Chief Afe Babalola that the outcome of next Saturday’s presidential election would depend on the deepness of the candidates’ pocket.
Osifo argued that the winner would depend on the level of sophistication and political methodology.
In a statement in Akure, Barr. Osifo said Tinubu, appeared more sophisticated and methodical in a approach to campaigns as well as reaching out to electorates.
Barr. Osifo stated that Tinubu has the brightest chance of winning the presidential election.
He said the victory of Tinubu would not be dependent on deep pockedtedness but the level of sophistication in style.
“If Tinubu wins on Saturday, it will not be due to his deep pocketedness but to the level of sophistication in his style.”
